Arewa Youth Congress Calls For Respect Over N19.7m Trial of Prof Bichi
The Arewa Youth Congress, AYC, has called for the respect of rule of law over the arrest and arraignment of Professor Armayau Hamisu Bichi, former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Dutsinma on charges of N19.7 million fraud allegation.
The Congress noted that it is not debating on the merits or otherwise of any matter currently before the court.
The group called for focus on the core principles guiding democracy and public engagement. The AYC identified the principles to include presumption of innocence, right to fair hearing, responsible media engagement, and Respect for institutions and due process. The Congress insisted that these must be accorded to the former vice chancellor.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arraigned the former Vice chancellor of the Federal University, Dutsinma, Professor Armayau Hamisu Bichi, before the Katsina State High Court on a five-count charge of bribery to the tune of N19.7 million.
The AYC protested that Professor Armayau Hamisu Bichi contributed tremendously to the growth of the university, agitating that his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, recorded notable developments which cannot be ignored.
The Congress cautioned against disrespect and media trial of the academician, except found guilty by a competent court of jurisdiction.
