Sand Miners, Tipper Drivers On Rampage in Anambra Over Harrassment

 

Sand miners and Tipper drivers in Onitsha, in Anambra State, have gone on rampage, protesting harassment and multiple taxation by officials of the State Government; even after they have obtained licenses and clearance from the federal government agency, NIWA.

The discontented sand miners displayed placards with different inscriptions, to express their displeasure over the losses they suffer from the harassment of government officials.


State President of the Sand Miners Association, Chris Mbaegbu; State President of Tippers Association, Augustine Akaigwu; and other, leading the protest to the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, Area Command, in Onitsha, lamented the Clampdown on them. They called on relevant agencies to come to their aid.

The Managing Director of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited, Professor Charles Ofoegbu, explained that the activities of the miners were restricted due to environmental concerns.
