IGP Disu Advocates Collective Actions To Eradicate Insecurity in North West

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwanu Disu, at the North West Security Summit, Gusau, Zamfara State, on Saturday, advocated collective actions of all stakeholders, from the institutions of government, to the security agencies, and the communities, toward eradication of insecurity in North West Nigeria.

IGP Disu noted that the North West remains a region of enormous human, economic and cultural importance to Nigeria, among other values.

Disu lamented that yet, the region continues to confront serious security challenges. IGP, however, expressed optimism that "these challenges are serious but they are not insurmountable, particularly, banditry, kidnapping, arms sales, communal and ethnic conflicts, farmers/herders tension, violence, criminalities and other forms of insecurity which threaten lives, livelihood, economic activities and social cohesion."

IGP Disu prescribed that what is required is not simply a multiplication of security operations. According to him, "what is required is a coherent, sustained, and intelligence-driven regional response, supported by political will, strong institutions, community participation and genuine collaboration amongst stakeholders."
This is the essence of this summit, he said.
IGP Disu highlighted inter alia: "Our experience has thought us one fundamental lesson; no single security agency can secure the North West alone.

"The police cannot do it alone. The military cannot do it alone; intelligence agencies cannot so it alone; state governments cannot do it alone, traditional institutions cannot do it alone, and importantly, the communities, themselves, cannot be excluded from the security architecture."
