Pensioners Issues Ultimatum, Threaten Indefinite Protest August 18
The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners issued ultimatum to the state government for payment of their entitlements, threatening to commence indefinite protest on August 18, 2026, against LAUTECH Teaching Hospital and Emmanuel Alayande University of Education over failure to implement the directive of Governor Seyi Makinde to increase pension allowances.
Union Secretary, Segun Abatan, in Ibadan, accused heads of certain tertiary institution of underminding the governor’s authority. He also recalled that in January 2025, Makinde approved a ₦25,000 minimum monthly pension for the state’s lowest-paid pensioners.
