Obi Lobbies Jonathan Towards 2027 Elections

A frontline presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Peter Obi, extended his political overture to former President Goodluck Jonathan, in a seeming lobby towards 2027 presidential election.

Obi has been holding consultations with elder statesmen, who nuclide former President Olusegun Obasanjo, etc., in the buildup to 2027.

However, Obi said his meeting with former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan did not involve any request for endorsement, stating that such discussions would only arise if he formally becomes a candidate.

Obi, after a closed-door meeting with the former president, said that the visit is part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said he has also met with other past leaders, including Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida, describing them as “fathers of the nation” whose counsel remains important.

According to him, the discussions focused on Nigeria’s current situation and the need to ensure free, fair, and credible elections.

Obi also dismissed concerns about the country drifting into a one-party system, insisting that Nigeria’s democracy does not support such a development.

He added that consultations will continue as part of efforts to strengthen the democratic process ahead of 2027.
