NDC Insists Peter Obi Will Be on 2027 Ballot
The National Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Ralph Nwosu Ahmeh, has insisted that the party remains a lawful political platform and thatthe presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will be on the ballot in the 2027 general elections, despite the Lokoja Federal High Court ruling, setting aside the party's registration.
Addressing journalists, Ahmeh expressed confidence that the legal issues surrounding the party would be resolved in its favour, maintaining that the NDC would continue its political activities and preparations for the next general election.
The NDC chairman questioned the legal basis of the judgment and called on the judiciary to protect democratic principles and sustain public confidence in Nigeria's electoral process.
He also urged the ruling party to concentrate on defending its performance in office rather than engaging in attempts to undermine opposition platforms.
For the NDC, Ahmeh said, the immediate priority is to pursue its legal challenge against the judgment, while continuing preparations for future elections.
He disclosed that the party would proceed with the submission of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, insisting that all nominations already conducted by the party remain valid.
