PDP Calls On FG To Reform Security Architecture
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, under Taminu Turaki SAN, has called on the Federal Government to urgently reform Nigeria’s security architecture.
The Chairman of the PDP Interim National Working Committee, Turaki, made the call on Monday during a solidary visit by the party leadership to Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan, Oyo State, following recent attacks in Oriire local government area.
He stated that governors cannot effectively protect citizens without operational control over security agencies in their respective states.
He described the current security structure as contradictory, saying it is untenable for governors to be regarded as “Chief Security Officers” while lacking direct authority over police and military commanders.
Turaki suggested that governors should have operational control over all security apparatus within their states "if the title of Chief Security Officer is to have meaning."
While commiserating with the government and people of Oyo State, the PDP acknowledged Makinde’s efforts to ensure safety and protect lives and property.
