Deputy Speaker Kalu Calls For Increase In Local Arms Production To Curb Insecurity
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called for increased local arms production and stronger financial monitoring, as part of efforts to tackle insecurity in Nigeria.
Kalu, at the Nigeria People’s Strategic Conference and Defence Exhibition 2026 in Abuja, said Nigeria must reduce its dependence on imported weapons by developing local manufacturing capacity.
He also stressed the need for collaboration among the defence, technology, financial, civil society and government sectors to build a modern and effective security architecture. The Deputy Speaker further urged financial institutions to strengthen measures aimed at blocking criminal and terrorist financing.
Also, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, commended local defence companies and young innovators, developing drones and other security technologies.
He said such initiatives would boost Nigeria’s self-reliance in defence production and enhance national security. Musa also urged Nigerians to contribute positively to nation-building, noting that security is a collective responsibility.
