Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, hosting Nigerian-born United Kingdom candidate for the ICJ election, Dapo Akande, at the National Assembly, said the International Court of Justice is witnessing a historic rise in cases, largely driven by issues of genocide, armed conflict and occupation across Africa.

The Deputy Speaker stressed the importance of strong representation at the global court and assured Akande of the National Assembly’s support for his bid.

The meeting ended with the presentation of an endorsement proclamation from the Office of the Deputy Speaker, underscoring confidence in Akande’s ability to serve effectively as a Judge of the International Court of Justice.
