Reps Deputy Speaker Kalu Optimist State Police Will Not Abused
the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed optimism that the new State Police Bill contains enough safeguards to prevent abuse by state governors and should be embraced for its security benefits.
Kalu, in Abuja on return from engagements at Chatham House and the London Climate Action Week in the United Kingdom, said the bill bars state police from partisan political activities and will be backed by a new Police Act to guide its implementation.
He also said he used the international engagements to showcase Nigeria’s democratic reforms, attract investment in climate and energy transition programmes, and promote a positive image of the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
