FG Risks Undermining National Security, Continues Welcoming Asylum Seekers, Harbour Refugees
The Federal Government may be undermining security of the country with continuous receiving of asylum seekers from neighbouring countries, including accepting refugees.
In commemoration of the 2026 World Refugee Day, NCFRMI Commissioner Tijani Ahmed, disclosed the resolve of the federal government to continue keeping Nigeria's borders open to asylum seekers, as well as adhering to the international principle of non-refoulement, which prevents refugees from being forcibly returned to countries where they face danger. All these at a time Nigeria is in deep insecurity crisis.
Commissioner Tijani Ahmed noted that thousands of refugees from Cameroon and Niger Republic have been registered in certain states, namely, Benue, Borno and Cross River states, adding that about 3,000 Nigerian refugees voluntarily returned from Cameroon in January 2026.
