Police Arrest Suspects Over Staged Kidnap in Delta For N25m Self-Ransom

The Delta state police command has arrested one suspect, identified as Michael James, and his accomplice over staged kidnap.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of Delta State Command, Edafe Bright, in a statement, indicated that the 22-year-old suspect, from Owa-Alero community, left home to dispose refuse but did not return, saying he was abducted and his abductors were demanding the sum of N25 million as ransom for his release.

The PPRO said that officers of the Command proceeded to comb the forests in the community, while the cordoning of the bushes. The PPRO said that the operation led to the suspect coming out of the bush to claim he escaped from the kidnappers.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have faked his own kidnap, saying he spent the money given to him by his sister, hence, he decided to fake his kidnap to raise money.

The suspect and his accomplice are currently in the custody of the police, as investigation is ongoing to arrest his accomplice, who made the phone call to his family members.
