Community Regaining Resilience After Terrorists Onslaught In Benue

Residents of Yelewata are beginning to regain resilience after the series of terrorists onslaught in their community.

The residents expressed optimism that the social transformation taking place in their community through the support of Benue State Government, corporate organizations, development PARTNERS, and Spirited individuals, have started yielding results after several houses, market, and livelihoods were burnt and destroyed by armed herders in an attacks that claimed lives and displaced thousands last June 2025.

Residents of Yelewata community gradually return to pick up the remaining pieces and rebuild their destroyed homes, with government support and other PHILANTHROPISTS, Despite hundreds still in IDP camps.

The elders, youths and members of the community, expressed appreciation for the provision of borehole, educational materials, food and non-food items for the community and the ongoing Resettlement project.

They thanked the donors, though, they frowned that they are not being carried along by the committee set up by the state government opn projects execution. They wondered why the only market which they hope would revamp the socio-economic fortunes of the people have not been rebuilt.

The Humanitarian Commissioner, responding to the allegation, of not carrying the community along in the choice of projects execution, rebuilding of the market, among other concerns, said the state government is working on a planed model in ensuring no displaced persons return the same way they left, according to international standards.

The contractor of the Resettlement projects, said the 62 housing project, which is expected to be completed within 90 days, is a two bedroom and a parlor detachment, with enclosed toilets, kitchen and bathroom model. He said this will contain about 320 displaced persons is at the roofing stage, and will be delivered in good time despite earlier challenges.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, further revealed that Governor Alia is working to ensure displaced communities in Benue return to their ancestral homes with dignity.
