Reps Queries NBET N4trn Bond
The House of Representatives Committee on Finance has queried the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc over alleged irregularities in plans to raise bonds to clear over N4 trillion debt to electricity generation companies.
At the resumed revenue monitoring exercise covering the 2023 to 2025 fiscal years, lawmakers disagreed with the Chief Executive Officer of NBET, Johnson Akinnawo, following his claim that the agency does not generate revenue.
The committee directed NBET to reappear next week, alongside the Registrar of the Corporate Affairs Commission, with all relevant documents.
The Committee also summoned the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, to appear before it next week, as it concludes the exercise.
The presentation of the National Sugar Development Council was stepped down, with the committee insisting that its memorandum be submitted ahead of time and that its Chief Executive Officer be physically present.
