South Africans Uphold June 30 Anti-Immigrant Xenophobia Unrest
The Ides of March finally came in South Africa on June 30 as millions took to the streets to uphold the ultimatum on anti-migrant xenophobia unrest, for immediate exit of undocumented immigrants from the country.
Anti-immigrants protest pervade major streets of South Africa on Tuesday, in inflammation of xenophobia unrest against nationals of other countries, including African countries, resident in their country.
Meanwhile, many nationals of many African countries, including Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ghana, Mozambique, Ethiopia and others, forcefully departed South Africa, being aided by their home governments before the June 30 ultimatum.
However, the South African government deployed police to various locations to monitor the surge of racist unrest on Tuesday.
Anti-immigrant groups in South Africa had issued June 30 ultimatum for undocumented foreign nationals to vacate the country without delay.
People were gathered in small groups, in Zulu attire, in southeastern Durban, armed with sticks and shields. They assembled at a park, singing and chanting "abahambe", signifying "Let them go".
