Xenophobic Attacks: 130 Nigerians Register To Quit South Africa

About 130 Nigerians have registered with the High Commission in South Africa to quit the country in the midst of xenophobic onslaught by South African citizens.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, “arrangements are currently underway for voluntary repatriation flights for Nigerians who wish to return home.

"So far, about 130 Nigerians have registered with our Mission in South Africa, and we expect this number to increase as engagement continues.”

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, indicated that the government is working closely with Nigerian associations and relevant authorities to ensure a safe and coordinated process.

According to the statement, the federal government directed "all Nigeria organization heads to kindly begin compiling lists of Nigerians who wish to return home, but simply cannot afford the airfare."

Meanwhile, the South African High Commissioner has been summoned by the Nigerian Government over the xenophobic violent attack on foreign nationals in South Africa.
