‎The Akperan Orshi Polytechnic, Yandev, Benue State, is in gross decay, and infrastructure abandoned to dilapidation beyond human usage.

‎The management of the Polytechnic, accordingly, called on the Benue State government to, as a matter of urgency, rehabilitate the school infrastructure which are in dire need of attention as the school prepares to mark 100 years of existence in few weeks time.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Nicodemus Terkaa Nombor, said the institution is faced with lot of challenges, ranging from infrastructural decay, insecurity, bad roads, lack of official vehicles, incessant blackouts from the public power supply, inadequate and deplorable lecture halls, dilapidated furniture and inadequate teaching and non-teaching staff.

Dr Normbor said they have 127 casual staffs in payroll, some of them senior staff with extreme poor emolument, with the highest paid person receiving as high as N10,000, while others receive N5,000 per month; yet, the school is owing casual staff arrears of over 20 months

The Rector of the Polytechnic, who acknowledged the numerous interventions of the State Governor, which has brought respite, said the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, has improved the institution as well as staff training, observing that a lot needs to be done.

He further pleaded with the state government to review the current 50 per cent retention of all revenue collected by the state to certain basic things that may be carried out by the management.
