Court Adjourns Hearing On El-Rufai's Bail Application To April 1

The Federal High Court, sitting in Kaduna, on Tuesday, adjourned hearing on the bail application filed by Nasir El-Rufai to Wednesday, April 1.

Counsel to El-Rufai, Ukpong Abang, SAN, confirmed the adjournment, citing the need to file responses.

Apparently, El-Rufai was taken into custody by the ICPC after the court session.

The former Kaduna State Governor was in court for hearing of the bail application amidst tight security. He is facing a 10-count charge of alleged conversion and possession of public property, and money laundering.

El-Rufai had spent over one month in detention before being released on compassionate ground last Friday to attend to the funeral of his dead mother.

He was arraigned before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa, and the court had fixed March 31, 2026, for the hearing of pending applications, including his bail request.

Earlier, El-Rufai was arraigned before a Kaduna State High Court on separate charges of abuse of office, fraud, and intent to commit fraud, alongside Amadu Sule.

The ICPC instituted charges against him at both the Federal High Court and the State High Court, and proceedings on the bail application are expected to continue on Wednesday.

Council to both parties decline speaking to journalists on camera, a member of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Ahmad Tijani, spoke in solidarity with the former governor.
