Nigerian Students Tasks FG, State Govts On Creating Enabling Environment For Indigenous Industries

The 46th Senate Sitting of the National Association of Polytechnic Students has tasked the Federal and State Governments to create an enabling environment for local industries to thrive through stable policies, access to funding, tax incentives, and protection from unfair foreign competition.

Presenting the Communique at the end of the meeting, the President of the Senate, Comrade Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, while reflecting on the theme of the event: Prioritizing Local Industry in Nigeria, posited that Nigeria is not a poor country but it has consistently failed to prioritize its potentials.

He maintained that the country had, in the recent times, experienced a sharp increase in fuel prices, noting that transportation has become more expensive, businesses are struggling, and students are directly affected. He said this had been the end result of failure to support local Industries.

The Students Body demanded an unwavering policy that ensures consistent crude oil supply to local refineries, an enabling environment for local industries to thrive through stable policies, access to funding, tax incentives, and protection from unfair foreign competition.

The Association also called for proper funding of Polytechnic education for the country to have enough skilled manpower needed to run factories, maintain machines, and drive innovation.
