KANO POLICE BUST INTER-STATE CAR THEFT SYNDICATE, RECOVER 3 SUSPECTED STOLEN VEHICLES IN COORDINATED OPERATIONS

In line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on sustained intelligence-led policing and proactive community partnership, the Kano State Police Command has recorded major operational breakthroughs against car theft and transnational vehicle trafficking syndicates.

1. Dismantling of an Inter-State Stolen Vehicle Syndicate: On 16th May 2026 at about 1100hrs, operatives of the Command's Special Intervention Squad (SIS) acted on credible intelligence and arrested three suspects in connection with a stolen Toyota Camry syndicate:

i. Abel Nanlir Nafa, 38yrs, m, of Wuse Zone 4, Abuja
ii. Stephen Wanneh, 47yrs, m, of Kaura LGA, Kaduna State
iii. Habiba Mohammad, 35yrs, f, of Naibawa Gabas, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State.

During the course of investigation, the first suspect confessed that, a suspect, now at large, stole a black Toyota Camry 2015 model without registration number from Enugu State and handed it to him for sale, knowing it was stolen. The second suspect was invited to assist in selling the vehicle and was also aware of its stolen status. The third suspect confessed that she was contacted by someone to help sell the vehicle. She subsequently contacted her receiver, a Citizen of Niger Republic, who offered to buy the vehicle for ₦1,500,000. The stolen Toyota Camry has been recovered. Operatives are intensifying efforts to identify the owner and arrest other accomplices at large.

2. Recovery of Additional Stolen Vehicles in Kano: Following up on an ongoing case involving a recovered Toyota Corolla LE stolen from Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Mambolo Street, Zone 2, Wuse, Abuja, the Command conducted a coordinated tactical operation at the residence of the principal suspect, Haruna Ibrahim, 'm', of Darmanawa Layout, Naibawa, Tarauni LGA, Kano State.

Although the suspect remains at large, operatives successfully recovered two additional suspected stolen vehicles from his premises:
i. Hyundai Sonata, 2016 model, red in colour, without registration number
ii. Hyundai Elantra, 2014 model, ash colour, with registration number KMC 523 TF
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and recover further exhibits linked to the syndicate, and whoever recognizes his/her motor vehicle above should contact: 07063407910 or report at the Office of the Police Public office Officer (PPRO), Bompai Police Headquarters Kano with proof of ownership.

3. Command’s Commitment: The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commends the gallantry and professionalism of the operatives involved. He reaffirms that these achievements reflect the direct impact of the IGP’s directive on intelligence-led policing, inter-agency synergy, and community partnership in proactive policing.
