Onigbinde's Final Journey Home Begins, Passed On @ 80
The final journey back home of Nigerian footballer and national coach, Festus Adegboye Onigbinde, has begun with memorial lectures and a press briefing in his honor. The legendary coach and former CAF and FIFA instructor died at the age of 88.
Family, friends and members of the football community gathered as the memorial activities opened.
His family expressed disappointment over neglect from the Nigeria Football Federation and the National Sports Commission, saying nothing was done to give him a befitting burial.
The call for action came as stakeholders urged the Federal Government to institutionalize compensation for past sports administrators. The aim is to give families of former contributors confidence, love and respect for their service to the nation.
At the event, Dr. Felix Owolabi, Vice President Nigerian Football Coaches Association, NFCA, DR Abiodun Salami and DR Adeboye Onigbinde, Son of Deceased, highlighted Onigbinde’s contributions to football development and national growth, describing him as a pathfinder for Nigerian coaches.
Memorial activities continue as the nation prepares to lay the legendary coach to rest.
