Youths Protest At Osun INEC Over Staff Redeployment
A group of Concerned youths were on rampage, protesting the redeployment of INEC staff in Osun State. The protesters submitted a petition at the Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Osogbo, Osun State, calling the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, to order on the ongoing wave of postings and redeployments of INEC staff across the state.
The youths, a peaceful protest at the INEC State headquarters in Osogbo, after submitting the petition, addressed to the INEC Chairman, argued that the administrative redeployment in the state appears to be selective, partisan, and politically motivated.
They said the development, if left unchecked, poses threat to democracy and neutrality of INEC, as well as capable of eroding public trust on peaceful conduct of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
Parts of their demands include immediate suspension and review of all recent staff postings within Osun INEC offices, as well as transparent and independent audit of voter transfer activities in the state.
It would be recalled that the speaker of the state Assembly, last week, raised similar concern over redeployment of the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke, from Osun to Ondo state.
