Protests erupted in Kaduna on Tuesday as residents demanded the release of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who was arraigned in court in the state.

The protesters took to the streets displaying placards and chanting slogans in support of El-Rufai, who was rearrested after his bail hearing was postponed by the Federal High Court.

The ICPC had released El-Rufai last Friday to attend his mother's funeral but took him back into custody after the court postponed his bail hearing, sparking outrage among his supporters.

The protesters expressed concerns over, what they perceive as, preferential treatment in the legal process, calling for El-Rufai's immediate release.
