Police Condemn Mob Action Over Unlawful Killing of Travelers In Plateau

The Kaduna State Police Command has condemned mob action following the unlawful killing of two travelers at Gidan Kalu Village in Birnin Yero, a few kilometers from Maraban, Jos, Plateau State. Muhammadu Sani, 45, and his friend Aliyu Mohammed, 40, both of Umar Village in Igabi LGA, were riding a motorcycle to Tudun Wada Zaria to visit a sick uncle. Residents reportedly became suspicious of their new motorcycle and began shouting thieves.

In fear, the two men abandoned the motorcycle and ran, explaining that they were not criminals and that some of the people chasing them even knew them. Despite this, an angry mob pursued them, attacked them brutally, and lynched them to death.

Following a complaint, operatives from the Birnin Yero Division arrested six suspects in connection with the killing. Those in custody include Abdullahi Mukailu Kigo and five others. Police said the suspects have confessed, and investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest more people who took part in the unlawful act.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, strongly condemned the incident and vowed that everyone found culpable will be prosecuted regardless of status. He warned against jungle justice and urged residents to report suspects to the nearest police station instead of taking the law into their own hands.
