Mix-up In NDP Over INEC Registration

Mix-up In NDP Over INEC Registration

There is ensuing mix-up in the National Democratic Party, NDP, over the registration of the party by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The National Financial Secretary of the National Democratic Party, Darlington Onyebuchi Agoha, has threatened to resign, if the Independent National Electoral Commission registers the party, using a manipulated constitution.

Agoha, in a statement in Abuja, referred to February 16 Federal High Court judgment directing INEC to register the NDP, but insisted that the order does not extend to a forged document.

Agoha alleged that a constitution submitted in September and October 2025 by the party’s National Chairman contained fraudulent clauses, including provisions to install the chairman as a life-serving leader, and strip other National Working Committee members of constitutional powers.

He said he had earlier notified INEC of the alleged irregularities on February 11.

The NDP financial secretary maintained that he would not support the institutionalization of autocracy, warning that he would immediately step down if the commission proceeds to register the party based on the disputed document.

Agoha added that Nigeria deserves a political party built on internal democracy and constitutional integrity.
