Kaduna 2027: PDP Candidate, Shehu, Promises Tough Action Against Banditry, insurgency

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at its primaries, elected Usman Bawa Shehu its governorship candidate in Kaduna State for the 2027 general elections.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Lawal, declared that Usman Bawa ABG emerged victorious after polling 124,170 votes to defeat his closest rival, Haruna Kajuru AG, who secured 22,010 votes.

In his acceptance speech after the announcement of the results, Shehu described his victory as a defining moment in the political history of Kaduna State, pledging to unite party members and restore hope to the people of the state.

The PDP flag bearer thanked party leaders, elders, women, youths, stakeholders and supporters across the 23 local government areas of the state for their confidence in his leadership.

Speaking on the challenges facing the state, the governorship candidate lamented the worsening insecurity, banditry, kidnappings and attacks on communities across Kaduna State, saying urgent action was needed to restore peace and stability.

ABG promised that if elected governor in 2027, his administration would prioritise security through collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, vigilante groups and local communities.

He said his government would strengthen community policing initiatives, improve intelligence gathering and provide logistics support for security agencies to ensure swift responses to threats.

On the economy, the PDP candidate pledged to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, encourage investments, empower youths through entrepreneurship and vocational training, and support agricultural development.

He also promised to prioritise education by renovating schools, recruiting qualified teachers and improving learning facilities across the state.
