Group Raises Alarm Over FCTA–AMAC Environmental Dispute, Alleges Double Taxation
A concerned Civil society organization, Global Integrity Crusade Network, GICN, has raised concerns over a dispute between the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, and the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, over environmental regulation in Abuja.
The President of the Global Integrity Crusade Network, GICN, Edward Omaga, said the conflict has escalated into a legal battle affecting residents and businesses.
He accused the FCTA, in collaboration with Nabuyar Environmental Consultants, of imposing parallel levies within AMAC, resulting in multiple taxation.
GICN cited a case where its affiliate paid ₦50,000 to AMAC but was later issued a ₦250,000 demand by Nabuyar on behalf of the FCTA.
The group also questioned the company’s legitimacy and said it has petitioned the Bureau of Public Procurement over its contract.
GICN called on the FCT Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to intervene and resolve the crisis.
It also demanded a suspension of ongoing prosecutions and urged authorities to clarify which agency is legally responsible for environmental regulation in AMAC.
The group warned it will continue advocacy, including peaceful protests, to address what it described as regulatory excesses.
