The Federal Government is set out to demolish the Carter Bridge in Lagos, linking the mainland to the Island across the Lagoon, for reconstruction. The new Carter Bridge of 1.93km is estimated at N548.98 billion.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, explained that various technical assessments in 2013, 2019 and under the current administration, suggested the bridge is beyond rehabilitation.

The Minister said that the underwater foundations, piles and pile caps, had deteriorated severely, making full demolition and reconstruction necessary.
