ADC Condemns Persecution of El-Rufai, Opposition Leaders
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, Kaduna State, has condemned alleged persecution and harassment of Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai and other opposition leaders by the All Progressives Congress, APC, government.
The Kaduna ADC, in a statement, expressed concern over a pattern of abuse of state institutions, disregard for due process, and erosion of democratic norms.
The ADC pointed out a series of actions against El-Rufai, including ministerial snub, questionable charges, and arrest of his associates, which they believe are aimed at undermining his reputation and political standing. The party state leaders also condemned the alleged misuse of anti-corruption agencies like ICPC, EFCC, and DSS to harass El-Rufai and his associates.
Prof Sani Bello, at a World Press Conference in Kaduna, raised concern about the treatment of El-Rufai, especially, issues of human rights concerns, including arbitrary detention, denial of fair bail conditions, and sub-standard detention conditions.
The ADC demanded an end to these violations and respect for due process and judicial integrity.
Prof Bello also raised concern about institutions neutrality, especially, with regards to opposition. He noted a widening clampdown on opposition voices in the country, including arbitrary arrests, intimidation, and interference with party structures.
The ADC demanded an end to these actions and restoration of democratic norms.
The party demanded the cessation of harassment, release of unlawfully detained individuals, and respect for the rule of law, warning that the current trajectory threatens democracy and public confidence in governance.
