Police Dismiss Personnel Over Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, Extortion

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the dismissal of several officers in Rivers State over allegations of kidnapping, armed robbery, and extortion.

The Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, DCP Anthony Okon, at a press briefing at the Rivers State Headquarters, Port Harcourt, paraded the affected officers, describing their actions as a gross betrayal of the Force's professional values.

The dismissal is part of an ongoing internal cleansing operation aimed at weeding out criminal elements within the rank and file of the Nigeria Police Force.

The major crackdown on internal corruption within the Nigeria Police Force has led to the dismissal and subsequent prosecution of five officers in Rivers State and three others who were allegedly caught running a criminal enterprise under the guise of official patrol duties in Port Harcourt.

The victim Festus Saturday, shared a harrowing account of his encounter with the rogue officers. He expressed relief following their arrest and the recovery of his assets.

Following an internal orderly room trial, the five officers were stripped of their ranks and dismissed. Their case files have now been forwarded to the director of public prosecutions for charges including conspiracy, armed robbery, and official corruption.

The police leadership, under Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, maintains that no officer regardless of rank will be spared if found engaging in criminal activity as the public is further encouraged to use official channels to report any case of misconduct or human rights violations.
