Truck Driver Crushes Toyota Saloon Car, Kills Driver

Driver of a heavy duty truck, conveying granite crushed a Toyota saloon car, killing the driver, and injuring the other occupant. The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Eleko Junction, along Lekki–Ajah Expressway, Lagos.

The occupants of the car included the owner, who died instantly, and the wife, who sustained severe injuries.


Preliminary findings revealed that the truck, heavily laden with granite, was driven on high speed from the Epe axis, but developed break failure on approaching Eleko Junction, then, lost control, veered off its lane and collided with Toyota saloon car.

The truck crushed the Toyota saloon car, while the drivers was trapped beneath the wreckage.

Through the coordinated intervention of LASTMA personnel and the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in collaboration with public-spirited bystanders, the victim was extricated from the debris.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, seated in the front passenger side, sustained life-threatening injuries, and was immediately rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

The driver of the truck fled the scene immediately upon witnessing the recovery of the deceased body to escape mob action.
