Stakeholders Call For Effective Policing System To Curb Insecurity

Stakeholders, at an Anniversary Lecture, in honor of an Abuja-based Legal Practitioner, Frank Tietie, enjoined the Federal Government to create a policing system that will curb insecurity, protect and respect the rights of Nigerians.

The Lecture with the title, "State Police: Adopting The Tony Ojukwu Report on Police Reforms as human rights approach to policing in Nigeria," brought together dignitaries from security agencies, legal profession, policy makers, among others.

The Keynote Speaker and Registrar of the Baze University Abuja, Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, posited that from the rural areas to the bustling urban centers,  Nigerians are daily being confronted with insecurity, leading to high level of mistrust between the citizens and law enforcement institutions.

While applauding the initiative of the Tinubu administration in the area of State Police, Prof. Adeniyi maintained that it is an opportunity to transform policing into a system that reflects demographic aspirations of the Nigerian society.

He, therefore, emphasized the need to build institutions that embodied Sound principles of accountability, dignity and the rule of law.

Other Speakers in their respective contributions stressed the need for State Police in order to strengthen the security architecture in the country and ensure safety of Nigerians.

The Celebrant, Frank Tietie, appreciated the Guests at the event. He noted that the discourse was initiated to draw attention to the spate of insecurity like kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, insurgency, communal violence and organized criminal activities, being encountered by Nigerians on daily basis.

In all, Speakers called for collective approach towards curtailing the spate of insecurity in the country.
