ONSA Decries Operational Funding Constraints At Senate Budget Defence
The Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, has decried the poor funding of intelligence, which, it complained, causes operational constraints in tackling insecurity in the country.
The Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office, Office of the National Security Adviser, Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, in an interaction with members of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, outlined key obstacles confronting intelligence agencies in the 2025 fiscal year.
Danjuma told the lawmakers that the intelligence community’s operations in 2025 have been significantly hampered by structural and financial bottlenecks.
Members of the Senate Committee, in response, commended the intelligence community, for what they described as its promptness, discipline and professionalism in carrying out its mandate despite funding limitations.
The committee, however, faulted certain heads of agencies, including some former senators, for delays and, what it termed lapses in administrative discipline.
The session later moved into a closed-door meeting, where lawmakers and security chiefs deliberated on budgetary figures and other sensitive national security matters.
