FCCPC Seals 5 Textile Warehouses In Kano
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, has sealed five textile warehouses in Kano for selling underweight and shortened fabric materials to customers.
In a statement signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, the Commission said the traders deceived buyers by selling fabrics below the stated measurements but at full prices, violating the FCCPA 2018.
The enforcement was led by the Director of Surveillance and Investigation, Mrs. Boladale Adeyinka, after weeks of monitoring activities in Kano markets.
The affected warehouses were located at several addresses across the city and stocked brands such as LGR, U&Me, Nana Tex, V Levintus, Mama Africa, Hightex, UE, S-U Velt, and Jisiki.
The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC, Mr. Tunji Bello, warned that the Commission will not tolerate practices that cheat consumers or distort market competition.
He said selling underweight materials exploits buyers and hurts honest traders who follow the rules.
Mr. Bello assured the public that the FCCPC will continue to protect consumers and ensure fair trading nationwide.
The Commission appreciated security agencies for their support and reminded retailers to ensure all goods meet declared standards and measurements.
