CAN Eschews From Endorsing Politicians In Benue

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has refrained from partisan politics, urging members to eschew from endorsing politicians contesting for offices in the buildup to the 2027 general elections in Benue State.

The leadership of Benue State Council of Christian Association of Nigeria, accordingly, enjoined members across the state not to endorse any politician seeking elective positions, but pray for them as leaders of their respective churches in the buildup to 2027 elections.

Reverend Jonathan Ugbede, Deputy Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Benue State, at the end of State Executive Council meeting in Makurdi, said that CAN is apolitical.

While the Christian body dissociated itself from any form of partisanship, the Association said it has not endorsed any politician. Ugbede stated that CAN is not opposed to any member of the church who intends to go into partisan politics, but that the church would pray for him or her.

While Rev Ugbede maintained that the Christian Association of Nigeria is not a platform for political ambitions, he urged Benue Christians to intensify prayers for Governor Hyacinth Alia to continue his good works in the state, acknowledging the governor's support to the church and pastors.

The coordinators of the Association in the three senatorial districts of state, expressing appreciation for the leadership for taking this decision, applauded the governor's ongoing developmental strides.
