Allegations Of Irregularities Rock Disabilities Commission, Reps Probes

Allegations of irregularities by stakeholders rock the Disabilities Commission.

The House of Representatives Committee on Disability has, accordingly, commenced investigation into the procurement processes and project implementation of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

The Chairman of the Committee, Bashiru Dawodu, announced the decision during the session.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Ayuba Gufwan, told the lawmakers that his administration discovered procurement irregularities after he assumed office in August 2024, and revoked contracts approved during the transition period after the Procurement Tenders Board declared them illegal.

Ayuba Burki Gufwan also informed the committee that the commission has begun expanding its operations across the country with regional offices already established in Plateau, Bauchi, Abia and Oyo states to improve access to services for persons with disabilities.

A stakeholder, Abdullahi Ibrahim, accused the commission of inflating the cost of certain projects and procurement contracts running into tens of millions of naira, Members of the committee urged stakeholders to submit documentary evidence as the investigation continues.
