IGP Restructures Police Monitoring Unit

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has approved the restructuring of the Police Monitoring Unit as part of ongoing reforms to strengthen oversight, discipline, and operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the reorganisation is aimed at refocusing the Unit on its core mandate, addressing operational gaps, and repositioning it as a more effective internal accountability mechanism.

The revamped Unit is expected to enhance proactive monitoring, intelligence-driven inspections, and real-time oversight of personnel and operations across commands and formations, while harmonising key investigative functions in line with the reform agenda.

As part of the changes, Deputy Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar has been appointed to head the Police Monitoring Unit, bringing his experience from the State Criminal Investigation Department in both the FCT and Rivers State Commands.

The Inspector-General says the reform will entrench professionalism, transparency, and discipline, with the Monitoring Unit playing a central role in enforcing standards and ensuring accountability across the Force.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to institutional reforms and the delivery of a more professional and citizen-focused policing system.
