Troops Sustain Coordinated Anti-Terrorism Offensives, Neutralize 317, Rescue 221 Victims
Troops of the Nigeria military have sustained coordinated offensives against bandits and terrorists in various theatres of war, resulting in elimination of many, arrest of 317 terrorists, rescue of over 221 kidnapped victims, and recoveries of arms.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, at a media briefing at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, affirmed that troops sustained coordinated offensives against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and oil theft nationwide.
He disclosed the offensives culminated in the elimination of over 317 terrorists, arrest of 314 criminals, and rescue of 221 civilians, including recovery of 93 arms and seizure ofd 21,910 litres of petroleum products.
He added that between March and May, operational trends showed increases in arrests, civilian rescues and terrorist surrenders, despite a decline in terrorist neutralization, arms recoveries and destruction of illegal refining sites.
Major General Onoja also addressed the recent kidnapping in Oyo State, saying the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed immediate security reinforcement, including aerial surveillance and deployment of specialized forces to apprehend those responsible.
He reaffirmed the military's commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements, urging Nigerians to support security agencies with timely intelligence.
