Terrorists Kill 17 Police Trainees In Yobe

Terrorists struck at the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, killing about 17 police officers undergoing training in advanced tactical and counter-terrorism.

Police authorities noted that the insurgents struck at about 1:15a.m.

The Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Anthony Placid, acknowledged the terrorists' attack, observing that the officers died in active service to the nation.

The FPRO admitted the killing of some Army officers, who were repelling the attackers. Specific figures were, however, not given.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, extended condolences to the families of the deceased, assuring that their sacrifice would be remembered.

The IGP stated the dead officers were courageous and patriotic.

The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State visited the school, on behalf of the IGP. He encouraged the surviving trainees to complete their programme in honour of their fallen colleagues.

The Police assured they are on the trail of the terrorists.
