Supreme Court Sacks Turaki-Led PDP
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has, in a split judgment of 2 against 3 justices, upheld the judgment of the Court of Appeal that nullified the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, held in ibadan, Oyo State, which produced Tanimu Turaki as National Chairman.
In a lead judgment, the Apex Court, through Justice Stephen Adah, Nullified the Ibadan PDP Convention, citing disobedience to lawful order of the Federal High Court that stopped the convention.
The three justices hit very hard on Turaki-led PDP for disobeying a lawful court order, describing it as a threat to the rule of law.
They blamed lawyers and judges for allowing litigants to engage in forum shopping and abuse of court processes.
The PDP appeal was dismissed for lack of merit.
However, Two justices on the panel, held a different view that the appeals bordered on the internal affairs of PDP, saying that the appeals should be allowed.
This means the judgement upheld the victory of the PDP faction led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
