BOT Takes Over PDP Leadership After Supreme Court Judgement
The Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has shown readiness to take over the leadership of the party.
The decision, according to the BoT, is pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP, as amended in 2017.
BOT secretary, Babangida Aliyu gave the indication in Abuja, while briefing Journalists after an emergency expanded meeting of the BOT held after the Supreme Court judgement on Thursday.
The Apex Court judgment had nullified the party’s convention held in Ibadan in November 2026, rendering null and void the new party officials elected therefrom.
Babangida said the Apex court’s decision allows the Trustee to assume leadership of the party, pending resolution of pending matters at the courts.
According to him, the consequential invalidation of both the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led as well as the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led Working Committees directly places the statutory onus of leadership of the party on the shoulders of the Board of Trustees, BoT, as the second highest Organ of the Party, pursuant to the express and unambiguous provision of Section 32 (5) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
The former Governor, however, urged all PDP members to join hands to ensure that the party returns to its past glory.
