More Lawmakers Defect As NASS Resumes Plenary
On the resumption of plenary in the National Assembly after the Easter break, eight members of the House of Representatives defected from the APC, PDP and LP to ADC, Accord Party, PDP and APC.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, presiding the session, read the letters of defection of the lawmakers on the floor of the House.
The lawmakers include Thaddeus Attah from Lagos, who moved from LP to ADC; Bashiru Usman from Kaduna, defected from APC to ADC; Abubakar Abdul Buba Abubakar from Niger, moved from PDP to APC, and Sani Noma from Kebbi, defected from PDP to ADC.
Others are Ibrahim Mohammed from Kebbi, moved from PDP to APC; Mudashiru Alani, from Osun, defected from PDP to Accord Party; Olusoji Oluremi from Osun, moved from PDP to Accord Party; and David Fuoh from Taraba, defected from APC to PDP.
The lawmakers attributed their defection to internal divisions and developments within their former parties, which they said had affected cohesion and made it difficult to effectively carry out their legislative responsibilities and represent their constituents.
The House also observed a minute of silence in honour of a late member, Hon Mohammed Hassan, who was elected in 2023 on the platform of the NNPP and died on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Abuja after a brief illness.
The House adjourned plenary to the next legislative day in honour of the late lawmaker.
