Makinde Receives Rescued Oriire Pupils, Teachers,Assures of Support
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has assured the rescued pupils and teachers in Oriire LGA of government's support for speedy recovery and guarantee of safe environment for sustain education.
Governor Makinde had on Tuesday officially received rescued the teachers and pupils abducted from the Oriire Local Government Area from the military.
The rescued victims were formally handed over to the Oyo State Government by the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, during a ceremony held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor's Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The rescued teachers and pupils, were escorted in convey of various heads of security agencies; they arrived the Governor's Office, Agodi, Ibadan, at 4:11p.m.
Governor Seyi Makinde assured the rescued teachers and pupils abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area that the state government will provide all necessary support to aid their recovery and ensure that their education and careers are not disrupted.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all the security agencies for their coordinated efforts, which led to the safe rescue of the victims after 56 days in captivity.
The Principal of the affected school, Mrs. Rachel Alamu, recounted the harrowing 56-day ordeal. She said the victims were under difficult conditions in the forest, but never lost hope of returning home alive.
She disclosed that the kidnappers repeatedly used fear and psychological intimidation, claiming that the government had abandoned efforts to secure their release.
