ADC Declares Loss Of Confidence On INEC Chairman
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has declared loss of confidence on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan, inthe buildup to the 2027 general elections. Accordingly, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, David Mark, in Abuja, called for the immediate removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan, citing a total loss of public confidence.
Mark accused the INEC chairman of actions capable of undermining Nigeria’s democracy, saying that Nigerians no longer trust the Commission under his leadership.
The former Senate President stated that the ADC coalition has dissolved its National Working Committee, NWC, and installed a caretaker committee led by him to defend multi-party democracy.
Apparently, the Caretaker Committee arrangement had taken care of the leadership vacuum in the party, and would have resolved all leadership controversy, pending a national convention.
Mark complained that Nafiu Bala Gombe, who resigned in May 2025, later resurfaced to claim the chairmanship in September, despite INEC’s earlier recognition of a different leadership.
He further accused INEC of withdrawing recognition from the party’s leadership and backing, what he described as, a fictitious faction, in defiance of court rulings.
Mark warned that the development poses a serious threat to democracy; he urged Nigerians to resist any attempt to subvert the system.
