Nigeria, Ghana Step Up Joint War against Drug Trafficking

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mohamed Buba Marwa, has pledged stronger regional action against drug trafficking, while hosting a Ghanaian delegation in Abuja.

The delegation, led by Maxwell Obuba Mantey of the Narcotics Control Commission, was in Nigeria on a renewed mission to deepen Nigeria-Ghana cooperation on security.

Both countries formalized their partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to boost intelligence sharing, joint operations, and capacity building.

Marwa warned that transnational crimes, including drug trafficking and money laundering, remain a major threat requiring a coordinated regional response.

Mantey highlighted evolving risks, including synthetic drugs, maritime trafficking routes, and rising domestic drug use.

Both sides say the agreement will deliver concrete action to dismantle criminal networks and strengthen security across West Africa.
