Makinde Inaugurates 20 Man Council On Climate Change

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has inaugurated a 20-man State Council on Climate Change, as part of efforts to tackle the growing impact of climate change and promote sustainable environmental policies in the state.

Governor Makinde, while inaugurating the Council at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, said the initiative was in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13, which focuses on urgent action to combat climate change and its effects, as well as the implementation of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change in Oyo State.

Governor Makinde stated that the newly inaugurated Council would be responsible for developing and implementing measures, aimed at mitigating environmental challenges confronting the state.

Gov Makinde commended members of the Council drawn from the private sector, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and academia for accepting to serve, noting that many of them had already been contributing towards reducing the impact of climate change in the state.

The governor also charged members of the Council to see their appointment as an opportunity to contribute meaningful ideas that could shape government policies on climate change.
