NSCDC Commemorates 2026 World Civil Defence Day With Thanksgiving Service

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, held a special thanksgiving service at the NSCDC National Headquarters Chapel in Abuja, as part of the activities marking the 2026 International Civil Defence Day,

The National Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, ACC Babawale Afolabi, in a statement indicated that the Commandant General of the Corps, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, was represented at the service by the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Investigation, DCG Nnamdi I. Nwiyi, alongside other senior officers and personnel of the Corps.

The Commandant General reaffirmed the Corps’ unwavering commitment to its statutory mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as safeguarding lives and property across the country. He emphasised that the NSCDC remains dedicated to serving the nation with professionalism, integrity, and the fear of God.

Afolabi emphasized that highlighting the theme of this year’s celebration, “Managing Environmental Risks for a Resilient and Sustainable Future,” the Commandant General urged officers and men of the Corps to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing emerging security and environmental challenges, noting that resilience and sustainability are essential pillars for national development.

The NSCDC Chaplain, Pastor John Paul, led special prayers for Nigeria, its leadership, and the continued success of the Corps in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.

In his sermon, the Guest Speaker from the FRSC Chapel, reminded officers of the importance of divine guidance in leadership and service.

Drawing from Psalm 127:1 — “Except the Lord builds the house, the labourers labour in vain” — he encouraged personnel to remain steadfast in faith and duty. He further charged them with the motivating declaration: “Defenders never quit, and quitters never defend.”

The well-attended service had in attendance senior officers of the Corps as well as representatives from sister security agencies, reflecting unity and shared commitment to national security and service.

The International Civil Defence Day is observed annually to recognise the invaluable contributions of civil defence organisations worldwide in promoting safety, emergency response, and national resilience.
