Nigerian Correctional Service Promises secured Future for Inmates

The Nigerian Correctional Service has restated its commitment to turn all awaiting trial inmates in all Correctional Centres to awaiting assets.
The Controller General of the Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, gave the assurance at the 2025 Inmates Exhibition and Graduation Ceremony at the Zone A Command, stating that, it was a testimony of what custodial centres could do in turning out individuals who are transformed, equipped, and ready to make a positive difference in society.
Nwakuche added that the initiative is in line with the spirit of NCoS Act 2019 which emphasises the shift from punitive to correctional philosophy in penal management saying through skill acquisition and formal education, the service is steadily reducing recidivism, fostering reconciliation between inmates and their families, and proving that rehabilitation is both a possibility and a reality.
He charged the lucky inmates to allowed these skills define their future and not the past stressing that they should live out the meaning of the team of the event “Reformed for Impact” and used what they have learnt to positively touch lives and build a better future for themselves.
One hundred (100) inmates who have successfully undergone rigorous training in trades such as carpentry, shoemaking, tailoring, electrical installation, barbing, hairdressing, catering, and several others received Trade Test Certificates from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity.
