Egbetokun Dismisses Promotion Scandal
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has dismissed reports of promotion scandal in the Nigeria Police Force. The IGP reprimanded those who trade in falsehood or seek to undermine the integrity of public institutions in the country.
The Police authorities presenting data on promotions in the past 3 years of Egbetokun administration, indicated that a total of 141,054 police officers had been promoted.
The Police indicated that IGP Egbetokun sets his priorities on better welfare of officers, merit, hard work and integrity, in considering elevation of officers.
The data provided by the Police showed that a total of 37,518 officers were promoted in 2023; a total of 29,184 promoted in 2024; and a total of 74,352 officers promoted in 2025.
Egbetokun assumed office in June 2023.
The Police insisted that the IGP superintended the promotion processes with overt transparency, fairness and equity.
According to Egbetokun, "we will not be swayed by those who trade in falsehood or seek to undermine the integrity of our institutions. There is no promotion scandal in the Nigeria Police Force. What we have is a system that rewards diligence, professionalism and proven capacity."
