ADC Blames Violations Of Due Process In FCT Polls For Poor Results
The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has attributed the party’s poor performance in the 2026 Abuja Area Council elections to alleged violations of due process by some coalition partners.
The party in a statement in Abuja by the factional National Chairman of the ADC, Nafiu Bala Gombe, expressed disappointment that certain elements within the coalition operated outside the party’s constitutional framework, a development, he said undermined the party’s chances at the polls.
Gombe also formally disassociated the factional leadership of the ADC from an international press conference recently addressed by, what he described as opposition elements posing as party stakeholders.
He stated that the factions involved do not represent the authentic leadership or position of the party.
The Chairman criticized the parallel group for accusing the National Assembly of overstepping its constitutional role in matters relating to the 2027 Electoral Act, noting that the legislature is duly empowered by the Constitution to enact and amend electoral laws.
He described such accusations as misguided and urged coalition partners to prioritize strengthening their relationship with the ADC rather than attacking constitutional institutions.
Gombe further stated that the international community has largely ignored the appeals of the dissenting group due to what, he described as internal power struggles and undemocratic conduct.
He called on genuine party members and well-meaning coalition partners to return to their respective ADC ward offices nationwide to register and actively participate in rebuilding and strengthening the party’s grassroots structure.
According to him, the Authentic ADC remains committed to national service and democratic principles, positioning itself as a credible vehicle for positive change in Nigeria.
